The History of the Americus-Sumter Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

The Americus-Sumter Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was established on July 7, 2017 in Americus, GA by Kevin T. Brown, Polemarch; Darrell D. Sabbs, Jr., Vice Polemarch; Lorenzo Johnson, Keeper of Records; and Kimothy B. Hadley, Keeper of Exchequer. No history of this Chapter would be complete without mention of Frank Thomas, Jr.; a fall 1986 initiate of the Lambda Psi Chapter. In the absence of an alumni chapter, Thomas served as the Lambda Psi Chapter Advisor for two years bringing an enormous emergence of Kappa men together in a small community from all facets of life and currently serves as the Columbus (GA) Alumni Chapter Polemarch. Americus-Sumter Alumni was founded with the sole purpose of supervising and advising the undergraduate chapter at Georgia Southwestern State University, Lambda Psi; and providing sound leadership and mentorship to a community pleading for positive black male figures to lead the way.

Other prominent charter members at the Chapter’s beginnings are Jimmy L. Green, Rev. Frederick Sherrod, Dexter Cutts, Gregory Wideman, Dr. Eric L. Holland, Demaris K. Battle, Sedrick A. Swan, Marlin K. Foster, Spencer Jolly, and Justin D. Edge. The Americus-Sumter Alumni Chapter was established thanks to the unflagging zeal and determination of these great men, and continues to take great strides to establish themselves amongst their community, the Southeastern Province and all the Fraternity.
